Chapter 11
âI canât leave.â At this point, Dima was just repeating himself and talking to the stillness in the car, because Xavier was hellbent on ignoring him. âYou gonna tell me where weâre going?â Even if he did have an idea.
Xavier didnât answer, though his knuckles did clench tighter around the steering wheel. Heâd waved away the driver and bodyguards, choosing to drive them to a destination that became clearer when they hit Eastern Parkway.
âThe club?â Dima twisted in his seat, narrowing his gaze at his husband. âWeâre in crisis fucking mode and youâre taking me to the goddamn club?â
Xavier didnât look at him.
What the fuck? âSo youâre ignoring me now?â His face hurt from the pummeling he took from Aleksâ fists and his back burned with the nicks from broken glass that had pressed into his flesh. The fear and panic hadnât left him. In fact, itâd ratcheted up higher once he realized Chantal wasnât responsible for the fire. Or the pictures that kept showing up at their door. He was torn between wanting to keep Xavier at his side, within sight and armsâ reach, and stashing him somewhere where nobody could find him.
But the man heâd married wasnât a coward. Xavier was content to let Dima handle his business, to be the one out there in the streets, but he couldnât forget who Xavier Storm truly was. Who heâd been when they first met.
âXavier.â Dima didnât move once they pulled into their designated parking spot at the club. After what heâd done tonight to Aleks and Chantal, he wanted Xavierâs arms around him. It had been a necessary thing, but by no means easy, and he hurt for his friend. He felt like shit for what heâd had to do.
âGet out the car, Rush.â
âI needââ
Xavier moved so fast, Dima didnât have time to make out his hand before it snatched him by the throat, yanking him forward. âI know what you need.â Oh, his voice was so soft. So calm and even. Only his eyes gave him away, molten darkness pulling at Dima like the most inviting abyss. He ached to throw himself into those dark depths, let Xavier anchor him, control him. But they didnât have the luxury. Not tonight.
âXavier.â His voice wobbled. âWe canâtââ
Xavierâs free hand moved, carrying a glint Dima didnât comprehend until the blade was at his throat, pressing into his skin. He almost fucking keened. All his nerve endings came online at once, damn near overwhelming him. He stared into that steady gaze promising respite, escape.
âGo on.â The grate of Xavierâs words pebbled Dimaâs skin. His nipples, even his balls, tightened. âTell me what we canât.â The knife sank deeper into Dimaâs flesh.
Blood rushed through his veins like a sprinter, thundering in his ears. The way he loved the man in front of him, the one with the knife to his throat and the most depraved promises in his eyes. The way Dima loved him. âI love you.â It escaped on the most
